This might sound counterintuitive, but hang with me for a second, and you'll see why it works so well...
The #1 way to KILL sugar cravings is to EAT MORE SUGAR.
Now before you think I'm crazy, let me explain...
First off, the reason you have sugar cravings in the first place is that your body NEEDS carbohydrates to run efficiently in terms of digestion, mitochondrial energy production, hormonal balance, and lots more.
If you don't eat enough carbohydrates, your body has to break down protein to produce glucose for your body's needs. It does this by increasing stress hormones, which when done chronically, can cause a lot of health problems.
I know some gurus will tell you that you don't need carbohydrates to survive... and that's true. You can survive on protein and fat. But to THRIVE, and to make things easier on your body for hormones, gut health, and energy production, getting enough carbohydrates from your food is the solution, so that your body doesn't need to produce glucose from stress hormones.
So while helping friends and clients with nutrition, I often notice they aren't eating nearly enough carbohydrates, and therefore, they're making things a lot more complicated for their body to stay in good hormonal balance.
Here's how I helped a good friend KILL his sugar cravings overnight, AND drop 27 lbs...
I recently helped a friend who was reaching for cookies, cakes, ice cream, and sodas to fill his sugar cravings. He was probably 40 lbs overweight.
What I did was tell him to eat a FULL 6-8 servings of fruit throughout every day (while not eating much other food until dinner)... I told him it doesn't matter what types of fruit... just whatever he likes best and to eat a variety too.
That's about 200 grams of sugar carbohydrates a day before even getting to dinner (in which I told him to eat meat and potatoes or meat and rice, thereby getting maybe another 50 grams of carbs at dinner)
So he was enjoying a half of a cantaloupe every morning, then a banana a couple hours later with his coffee, then maybe an orange, blueberries, strawberries, apples, and grapes throughout the afternoon.
What happened to his body over the next 6 weeks was absolute magic...
He lost a whopping 27 lbs in 6 weeks by eating SUGAR all day long from fruit. I mean, fruit is basically about 90% sugar by calories.
His fasting blood sugar and A1C actually went DOWN, by eating sugar all day long from fruit (and not eating much fat at all until dinner).
And he was giving his body what it was craving... again, there's a reason his body wanted and needed sugar to operate properly. So instead of caving in and giving his body sugar through unhealthy foods like cakes, cookies, ice cream, and soda... he was giving his body the sugar it needs through healthy fruits instead.
He told me that his cravings for soda, ice cream, cakes, and cookies completely went away once he started eating a lot of fruit all day long. He said if he eats fruit all day, he never ever craves those unhealthy sugar sources at all anymore. They're not even interesting to him since he's already given his body the sugar it needs.
This isn't a random thing that only works for a few people. I've seen this work for dozens of people I know personally, and I've heard case studies of thousands of people this worked for from podcasts I follow and articles I read.
I've personally also been eating at least 8 servings of fruit a day for the last couple years (fruit and honey is the majority of the carbs I consume), and my fasting blood sugar and A1C have gone down compared to years ago when I ate a lower carb food plan. I also haven't gained any weight at all despite going from about 100 grams of carbs a day to 300 grams of carbs a day (while lowering my fat intake to make room for those extra carbs).
And I feel incredible! Hormones have actually improved a good bit by tripling my carb intake.
