One year since the end of Roe.

Today marks the one year since Roe v. Wade was overturned and millions lost the right to safe abortions. Since the overturn of Roe, conversations about reproductive rights have dwindled but the problem has only become more severe.

What is the Dobbs decision?

The Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision overturned both Roe v. Wade. (1973), which ruled that a state law that banned abortion was unconstitutional, and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992), which established that restrictions on abortion are unconstitutional if they place an "undue burden" on a woman seeking an abortion before the fetus is viable. Essentially, the Dobbs decision gave states power to protect or restrict abortions.

In the last year, reproductive rights have been restricted all across the United States. Abortions are currently banned in 14 states. Not only that, a federal judge attempted to ban the abortion pill, and in Florida, they even tried to ban menstrual and sexual education in schools.

What has been the impact of the Dobbs decision?

Human Rights Watch put it best, "The consequences of the Dobbs decision are wide ranging. Restrictions on access to healthcare places women's lives and health at risk, leading to increased maternal mortality and morbidity, a climate of fear among healthcare providers, and reduced access to all forms of care."
