Hi ,
I was at my tennis partner’s house for dinner recently.
She opened the fridge, looked over what was left from the week... half an onion, a few tomatoes, some rice, a lemon... and twenty minutes later we were eating one of the finest meals I've had this year.
When I told her so, she shook her head. "Oh, I just threw it together. I'm not the creative type."
I had to laugh. Because that's exactly what creativity is.
So many of us decided long ago that creativity belongs to other people. Painters. Musicians. Writers.
But look a little closer and you'll find it woven through an ordinary day.
The wobbly chair you fix with whatever's in the drawer. The story you make up on the spot for a grandchild. The garden bed you keep rearranging until it finally feels right.
Researchers who study the creative mind suggest it may be less a talent than a state. When the mind relaxes and loosens its grip on the usual way of seeing things, ideas begin to wander toward each other... and sometimes they connect in ways that surprise us.
That's the spark. It doesn't need to be taught. It just needs a little room.
And that's exactly what I want to share with you this week. But first, an update.
