| | The trimesters, explained | | | | | | | | |
There's so much talk about getting pregnant, but what actually happens after you become pregnant? Pregnancy is measured across trimester and in each trimester there's a lot going on!
| | | The first trimester: Weeks 1-12
The first trimester of pregnancy is when you're adjusting to your changing body, hormones, and experiences. It's also usually when you find out you're pregnant! During this phase, the fetus grows the fastest; even though it's the least obvious from the outside. It's important to take prenatal vitamins to support this growth and your body during this time of change.
| | | | The second trimester: Weeks 13-26
During weeks 13-26 of pregnancy, the fetus begins to kick, hear your voice, and develops reflexes like swallowing. The baby's brain starts developing during the 5th month. Fingerprints and toe prints are also formed during this trimester. Many pregnant people say the second trimester is the most enjoyable – and you'll likely notice the beginning of your baby bump during this time! | | | | The third trimester: Weeks 27-40
In the third trimester, the fetus continues to grow in size and weight, and begins to position itself head down. In these last 3 months, the baby can fully hear and see. You'll definitely feel the baby kicking and squirming during this time. This trimester is the usually the most uncomfortable – the baby at its biggest so it's creating more heat and potentially pressing down on your bladder making you have to pee more often.
