When it comes to leg swelling, I see people making the same mistake over and over...
They're resting their legs, propping them up on pillows at the end of the day, elevating them on the couch...
And the swelling doesn't get better.
They can't figure out why.
It seems like common sense, right?
When your legs are swollen and achy, you put them up and rest.
But here's the thing:
Your body doesn't work that way.
Your leg muscles, especially your calves, are supposed to be working throughout the day.
They have an important job – pumping blood back up to your heart.
When you walk, your calf muscles squeeze and push blood upward.
It's like they're helping your heart do its job.
The problem happens when we sit too much…
Those calf muscles get lazy. They stop doing their pumping job.
And then fluid starts building up in your ankles and feet.
It's a bit of a trap:
- Your legs swell, so you rest more
- The more you rest, the less your calf muscles pump
- The less they pump, the more swelling you get
- And round and round it goes
So what can you do if walking hurts because your legs are already swollen?
It does the work your calf muscles should be doing – but while you're sitting comfortably.
